Champions of Rural America: Rep. Michelle Fischbach Highlights Priorities of the Working Families Tax Cut

Rep. Michelle Fischbach shares her appreciation for rural communities and outlines how the Working Families Tax Cut is aimed to support farm families on RFD-TV’s Champions of Rural America.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (RFD-TV) – Rep. Michelle Fischbach, who represents Minnesota’s Seventh District and serves on both the House Ways and Means and Rules Committees, is featured in today’s Champions of Rural America for her role in crafting the Working Families Tax Cut.

In her conversation with RFD-TV News, Fischbach described the year-long process behind developing the tax portion of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act (OBBBA). She explained that lawmakers began by traveling across the country to hear directly from Americans — including farmers and business owners — about what they needed from the tax bill. She noted that after gathering this public input, committee members spent long days reviewing each tax provision, sometimes up to 14 hours at a time, to understand how the changes would affect farmers, small businesses, and families.

“One of the important things that we looked at when we did the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ is, in particular for me — and I know a lot of the members on Ways and Means — was that it was really going to help rural America, because that’s the great place to live, that’s where the great people live, and we want to make sure that we are helping them and not hindering anything they are trying to accomplish in rural Minnesota and across the country,” she said. “One of the things: the 199-A Small Business Deduction. We made sure people were able to keep that, and up to 20%, to that deduction, for those small businesses. In my district alone, it affects 50,000 taxpayers. Then we also had the new market tax credit, and what that does is that it helps spur investment and growth in those rural areas. That’s another important part of the One Big Beautiful Bill. And then, finally, the Death Tax Exemption. And I know that affects both small businesses and especially farmers, and we were able to double that and make it permanent, and that’s an important part of passing on the family farm.”

Rep. Fischbach also detailed how the OBBBA supports rural America. She highlighted the preservation of the 199A small-business deduction, up to 20 percent, which she says affects 50,000 taxpayers in her district alone. She pointed to the New Market Tax Credit as another necessary provision designed to spur investment and growth in rural communities. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of doubling and making permanent the estate tax exemption, which she said is critical for farmers and small business owners seeking to pass their operations on to the next generation.

Fischbach discussed the farm-focused provisions included in the House’s proposed Farm Bill that were incorporated into the broader legislation. These include crop insurance reforms and increased premium subsidies, an increase in the reference price for Price Loss Coverage to support more frequent farmer payments, and roughly $2.2 billion in trade promotion funds to help expand global markets for U.S. agricultural products.

Looking to the future, Fischbach said the bill provides long-term benefits for the next generation of farmers. She pointed to measures that prevent tax hikes, the permanent estate tax exemption, and the availability of affordable crop insurance as key components that will help safeguard family farms and support future producers.

President Trump endorses MN’s congressional Republicans for 2026

President Trump endorses MN’s congressional Republicans for 2026

In a series of Truth Social posts, Trump endorsed Michelle Fischbach, Brad Finstad, Tom Emmer and Pete Stauber

President Donald Trump endorsed Minnesota’s four congressional Republicans earlier this week.

The endorsements came in a series of Truth Social posts on Monday for Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota’s 7th District, Brad Finstad of the 1st District, Tom Emmer of the 6th District and Pete Stauber of the 8th District. The four Republicans are running as incumbents for their seats in the U.S. House.

In the posts, Trump listed some of the representatives’ backgrounds and work while in the House and ended the post assuring voters the candidates will “never let you down.”

Each Republican has at least one DFL challenger so far. Erik Osberg is running against Fischbach; Jake Johnson is challenging Finstad; Anson Amberson, Doug Chapin and Sierra Grandy are running to unseat Emmer; and John-Paul McBride, Cyle Cramer and Emanuel Anastos are in the mix to challenge Stauber.

In the 2024 election, each of the seats stayed red handily: Fischbach won District 7 with 70%, Finstad won District 1 with 59%, Emmer won District 6 with 62% and Stauber won District 8 with 58%.

The endorsements from Trump are something other Republicans are looking for, with the 2026 midterms just under a year away.

At a press conference formally launching her run for governor on Monday, Republican Speaker of the House Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, said she “looks forward to seeking the endorsement of President Trump, should he choose to give that to me.”

The Republican Party of Minnesota will announce endorsements during a spring 2026 convention. The decision whether to abide by the party’s endorsement is up to each candidate — Demuth said Monday that she intends to.

A Marine’s final wish: Trump signs Minnesota veteran’s book, hand-delivered by Rep. Fischbach

A Marine’s final wish: Trump signs Minnesota veteran’s book, hand-delivered by Rep. Fischbach

“Your honorable service in the US armed forces and as a Moorhead police officer is worthy of every American’s admiration,” the president wrote in a letter to Brad Schenck, who is battling brain cancer.

A dying Marine’s final wish came true.

Last week, U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach hand-delivered a surprise to Brad Schenck at his family’s lake cabin: a copy of his memoir, “No Easy Way Out,” signed by President Donald J. Trump.

Alpha News first shared Brad’s story earlier this year: a Marine, Moorhead police officer, SWAT team member, and Air National Guard veteran who was forced into early retirement after a shocking diagnosis of brain cancer.

In the years since, Brad has undergone surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. His health is now in steep decline, and he is receiving hospice care at home. But amid the pain, Brad found purpose.

He wrote a book.

Between treatments and hospital stays, Brad poured his story into “No Easy Way Out,” a personal reflection on his life, his service, and the lessons he wants to leave behind for his three children.

In addition to a signed copy of his book, Brad also received a letter from the president, which read:

“Dear Brad,
Melania and I are thinking about you and your family during this difficult time. Our nation is strong because of hard working patriots like you who believe in and have defended the Great American ideals of faith, family, community, and country. I know that I will never stop fighting for the America you and I cherish. Your honorable service in the US armed forces and as a Moorhead police officer is worthy of every American’s admiration. You should feel pride in the dedication to freedom you have displayed throughout your life. Our nation continues to be great due to the sacrifices made by the best among us and those who support them. We pray you find comfort in the love of your family and friends, and may you continue to be uplifted by their support and strength.
May God bless you and keep you.
Sincerely, Donald J. Trump.”

“Thank you so much,” Brad said, his voice full of emotion.

Litchfield, Minnesota – Today, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach announced her campaign for another term as the Seventh District Representative. Fischbach was elected to Congress in 2020 and recently secured re-election with over 70% of the vote.

“It is a new day in Washington, D.C., with President Trump in the White House and republican majorities in Congress,” said Fischbach. “We have been given an opportunity by voters to do the things that are needed to save our great nation. I launched my campaign in 2020 to push for stronger rural communities by cutting federal spending, rolling back burdensome regulations, and defending individual rights. We’re seeing these priorities being put into action under the America First agenda, and I want to continue working as the advocate for western Minnesota.”

Rep. Fischbach is now serving her third term after winning in November 2024 with the highest number of votes of any Minnesota congressional candidate of either party.
